Temu is littered with Rite in the Rain style waterproof notebooks which are significantly cheaper. I decided to experiment with them a bit and see if the quality is sufficient to justify purchasing them instead of the real thing. I have never owned the real thing, but if the quality is good enough, then there is no need to compare them directly. In this post I cover my experiments with various pens and pencils.
In the past few weeks there has been a lot of discussion about the coronavirus which has focused on its exponential growth. Accompanying these discussions, there are always graphs illustrating why exponential growth of infectious diseases is bad. However, these graphs can be misleading if you don’t really grasp one important aspect of exponential growth: the exponential behavior exists from day 1.
I had never had a compelling reason to learn Ruby, but the last semester I taught my Scripting Languages course, I wanted to extend the breadth of coverage to include a wider variety of languages. I also try to make sure that my own breadth of knowledge in the area of programming languages stays up to date, so I finally decided to start learning Ruby. This is a summary of my initial impressions of the language.
Der zweite Weltkrieg spielte eine bedeutende Rolle für die Entwicklung der Politik, Kultur, Wirtschaft und Literatur der Nachkriegszeit in der Westlichen Zivilisation. Die meisten Länder, die an dem Krieg beteiligt waren, unterschieden sich aber nach dem Krieg stark voneinander. Einige Länder waren von dem Konflikt geografisch distanziert, aber andere Länder waren so involviert, dass sie als „Sieger“ oder „Besiegte“ bezeichnet wurden. Die Schweiz war wegen ihrer Neutralität geografisch beeinflusst, aber wurde weder als „Sieger“ noch als „Besiegter“ bezeichnet. Deshalb war die Schweiz in der Nachkriegszeit in einer besonderen Position, die auch in der zeitgenössischen Literatur zum Ausdruck kommt. Bei der Analyse der Werke von Max Frisch, der einer der wichtigsten schweizer Schriftsteller jener Zeit war, kann man diese einzigartige Perspektive im Rahmen der Literatur besser verstehen.
